Homegrown Bounty Landscapes was founded in January of 2020. When an unprecedented number of people found themselves stuck at home wishing for their own backyard oasis, we heard the calls and got to work building garden beds for clients all around North County. As time went on, people asked us to do bigger and bolder projects. We grew from installing veggie beds, to passion fruit pergolas, to eventually building a house-sized garden enclosure!
Our founder, Jon Kardos, has years of experience gardening in San Diego and around the world. Jon moved to SD in the summer of 2018. That fall, he began working as the Organic Gardening Instructor for the Cardiff School District. The classes taught by “Mr. Kardos” sparked joy in gardening and environmental education for countless students. It also solidified garden education as an important part of Homegrown Bounty’s mission.
Jon grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA and studied in the city at Temple University. While living in Philadelphia, he started the city’s first student run food co-op and worked in urban farming and youth culinary education. After graduating from university, Jon spent several months living and working on organic homesteads during a gap year in South America. Towards the end of his year abroad, Jon crossed paths with Morgan, his now- wife, who shared his love for nature and gardening. In fact, prior to meeting Jon, she had been volunteering in Peru working on habitat restoration in the Amazon!
